What is going on with the $500 Million Aquifer Storage and Recovery Project?

Why to these excellent reports seem to end with the surprise retirement of the head of the water department?

ASR is a huge commitment. Where’s the investigative reporting on this? That’s about $50 Million spent already, and hundreds of millions yet to be spent. Water rates are going up and up. To what degree is whatever is going on with that project have to do with rising water rates?

This is obviously a regional issue, but the fact remains that Wichita Metro is who is sucking the most water. We are trying to stave off contamination from oil drilling further upstream near Burton.
