It is doubtful our incumbent Mayor will need your vote in the primary, so help me give him a general election he won't soon forget!
I believe that our City Council, led by our Mayor has not done its job REPRESENTING THE PEOPLE. More than anyone else on the Council, that is the primary role of the Mayor, the only member elected at-large. I have signed an affidavit that I will not accept nor spend more than $500 on my campaign, neither will I accept any endorsements by any special interests or business groups. It will be my job to represent ALL the People of this fine city, and that will be my guiding principle during my administration.
1. Jobs -- Durability in the jobs market is not driven by feeding the rent-seekers and our local "too big to fails." It is driven by a dynamic business environment that is fueling job growth where it is most fertile--with new, small businesses.
2. Culture -- We have jumped the shark with regards to a coercive, freedom-hating, big-daddy aspect to our local government, which oversteps its Constitutional bounds and targets those least likely to be able to defend themselves. We can engender a new renaissance in this city by supporting local artists and musicians, rather than putting them under strange and unfriendly ordinances with regards to public performances and seek to lower the barriers to entry in this climate of reduced arts funding.
3. Freedom -- If we concentrate on lowering the cost of government, whether it be through repealing silly and overbearing fees, fines and taxes, or by lowering the cost of living and doing business here, all Wichitans can benefit. We can re-center our law enforcement efforts on harm reduction, rather than the creepy, federalized community policing initiative, designed to keep us all suspicious of each other and resentful of our fine police force.
4. Home Rule -- In an apparently desperate search for federal and state funds, we have sold out our local sovereignty to distant agencies and questionable initiatives. As government on every level is cut to the bone, we need to innovate and re-establish local solutions and funding methods that cut the binding strings of federal and state agendas with which we do not agree are a good fit for Wichita.
5. Community Service -- From urban blighting to emergency preparedness to homelessness and hunger, we should look to the strength of our neighborhoods to drive efforts to address these issues where they occur, rather than trying to impose one-size-fits-all, central plans that marginalize and under-recognize citizen participation.
Name yourself after your favorite cartoon character or something. While many consider anonymity to be cowardly, I think it is more likely to promote a genuine response and engender free speech.
